Riyadh Car Service: Transfers or Full Day Hire
A Riyadh day becomes cheaper on full day chauffeur hire than on separate transfers at about six movements in a sedan or an SUV, and at only three in an eleven seat van. Published Riyadh rates start at SAR 210 for an airport transfer and SAR 1,150 for twelve hours. Quotes on +966 56 644 0190.
There is a version of this guide that would simply tell you that a chauffeur for the day is better than a chauffeur for the trip. It would be easy to write and you would be right not to believe it. So this one does the opposite. It takes our own published Riyadh rate card, divides one number by another, and tells you the exact point at which buying the day stops being an indulgence and starts being the cheaper line on the invoice. Below that point you should buy transfers, and we would rather say so.
Every figure in this guide comes from the published Riyadh table on our pricing page. Nothing is estimated and nothing is rounded in our favour. Routes to Mecca, Madina and between cities are quoted per route rather than published, and where that is the case we say it rather than inventing a number.
Riyadh Is a Cluster, Not a Line
The first thing to understand about a working day in Riyadh is that the city is not shaped like Jeddah. Jeddah is a long ribbon along a coast, so a day there behaves like a line and the cost of a bad sequence is measured in coastline. Riyadh is a plateau city that grew outwards in every direction at once, and the districts that matter to a visitor sit in a loose cluster in the north and centre.
King Khalid International Airport is roughly thirty five kilometres north of the King Abdullah Financial District. Olaya runs down the spine of the city with the Kingdom Centre and Al Faisaliah towers on it. The Diplomatic Quarter sits west, behind its own access procedures. Al Sahafa, Hittin and Al Nakheel spread north around the financial district. The older commercial centre and the ministries sit further south.
What that shape does to a day is subtle and expensive. Individual hops between northern districts are short. The problem is that there are more of them. A Riyadh day rarely consists of two appointments at opposite ends of a road. It consists of five or six short movements, each one of which needs a car that is already there. That is precisely the pattern that makes separate transfers add up quietly, and it is why the arithmetic below matters more here than in a city where you can see the whole day on a single axis.
The Break Even, Worked Out on Our Own Numbers
A point to point transfer in Riyadh has a published price. So does twelve hours of hire with the same vehicle and the same chauffeur. Divide the second by the first and you get the number of separate movements at which the day becomes the cheaper purchase on price alone, before convenience, waiting time or luggage enter the conversation.
Here is that number for every vehicle on the published Riyadh card.
| Vehicle | Seats | Transfer | 12 hours | The day wins from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan (Ford Taurus or similar) | 3 | SAR 230 | SAR 1,380 | 6 movements |
| Luxury Sedan (Lexus ES or similar) | 3 | SAR 290 | SAR 1,495 | 6 movements |
| SUV (Toyota Fortuner or similar) | 6 | SAR 210 | SAR 1,150 | 6 movements |
| SUV (GMC Yukon or similar) | 6 | SAR 290 | SAR 1,725 | 6 movements |
| BMW 7 Series | 3 | SAR 690 | SAR 4,025 | 6 movements |
| Mercedes S Class | 3 | SAR 690 | SAR 4,370 | 7 movements |
| Hyundai H1 | 11 | SAR 575 | SAR 1,610 | 3 movements |
| Hyundai Staria | 11 | SAR 575 | SAR 1,840 | 4 movements |
| Toyota Hiace | 11 | SAR 690 | SAR 1,725 | 3 movements |
| Toyota Coaster | 21 | SAR 690 | SAR 2,070 | 3 movements, exactly level |
| VIP Luxury Coach (34 seats) | 34 | SAR 1,725 | SAR 2,990 | 2 movements |
| Luxury Coach (47 seats) | 47 | SAR 1,725 | SAR 2,875 | 2 movements |
Read the last column as a threshold rather than a target. At five movements in a Fortuner you are paying SAR 1,050 against a day rate of SAR 1,150, so transfers are still the cheaper purchase and we will book them for you. At six you are at SAR 1,260 and the day has won by a hundred riyals, and you also stop paying for the waiting that is not on the invoice.
Two rows deserve a second look. The Toyota Coaster lands exactly level at three movements, SAR 2,070 either way, which means the choice at that point is decided entirely by whether the group wants the vehicle held between stops. And the two full size coaches cross at the second movement, which is not a threshold at all in practice: if a coach is moving twice in a day, it should be on the day rate.
Why the Riyadh Number Is Lower Than the Jeddah One
Anyone who has read our Jeddah business travel guide will notice that the same vehicle crosses at a different point in the two cities. That is not an error and it is worth understanding, because it changes how you should buy.
| Vehicle | Riyadh 12 hours | Riyadh break even | Jeddah 12 hours | Jeddah break even |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan (Ford Taurus or similar) | SAR 1,380 | 6 | SAR 1,725 | 8 |
| Luxury Sedan (Lexus ES or similar) | SAR 1,495 | 6 | SAR 2,070 | 9 |
| SUV (Toyota Fortuner or similar) | SAR 1,150 | 6 | SAR 1,380 | 7 |
| Hyundai H1 | SAR 1,610 | 3 | SAR 2,070 | 3 |
| Mercedes S Class | SAR 4,370 | 7 | SAR 4,830 | 6 |
The main driver is simple and it is published on the same page. Full day hire in Riyadh starts from SAR 1,150 while in Jeddah and Dammam it starts from SAR 1,380. The day is cheaper in the capital, so it takes fewer transfers to reach it. On a Lexus ES the difference is dramatic: six movements in Riyadh against nine in Jeddah, because the Riyadh day is SAR 575 cheaper while the transfer is only SAR 35 dearer.
One row runs the other way and it is the most useful line in the table. The Mercedes S Class breaks even at seven movements in Riyadh but at six in Jeddah, which makes it the only vehicle on the card that crosses later than a Fortuner here. The reason is the transfer price rather than the day rate: an S Class transfer is SAR 690 in Riyadh and SAR 920 in Jeddah. If your Riyadh day is genuinely three or four movements and the car has to be an S Class because the car is part of the meeting, transfers are the honest recommendation, and you can see that on our fleet page before you commit.
The Airport Movement Behaves Differently
Everything above treats a movement as a movement. The airport leg is the exception, and the reason is time rather than distance. King Khalid International sits far enough north that a transfer to the financial district takes forty to fifty minutes in ordinary conditions and considerably longer at the wrong hour. Add the arrivals process and a single airport pickup can consume more of a twelve hour block than three inner city hops put together.
The practical consequence is that if your day starts at the airport and ends there, you should count the two airport legs as movements but treat the hours they occupy as the real cost. A day that begins with a 9 AM landing and ends with a 9 PM departure has already spent close to two hours in airport transit, which leaves ten hours for everything else. That is still a day, but it is a day with less room in it than the schedule suggests.
Whichever way you buy it, send the flight number rather than the landing time. A booking made against a landing time fails quietly when the aircraft is late, and the first person to discover it is the passenger standing at the kerb. A booking made against a flight number tracks the actual arrival and moves with it. Our airport transfer service works from the flight number by default, and the same applies whether you are landing at King Khalid, King Abdulaziz or King Fahd International.
Group Vehicles Cross Almost Immediately
The counterintuitive part of this arithmetic, and the part that costs visiting teams the most money, is that the bigger the vehicle the sooner the day rate wins. A three seat sedan needs six movements. An eleven seat H1 needs three. A thirty four seat coach needs two.
This happens because transfer prices rise faster than day rates as vehicles get larger. An H1 transfer is SAR 575 against a sedan at SAR 230, which is two and a half times the price, while the H1 day rate of SAR 1,610 is only about one and a sixth times the sedan day rate of SAR 1,380. The gap between those two ratios is the whole effect.
What it means in practice is that a delegation almost never belongs on transfers. A visiting team that lands, checks in, attends two meetings and flies out has made five movements and crossed the threshold twice over. If you are arranging group transport in Riyadh or a corporate programme across several days, the day rate is very rarely the wrong answer and the only real question is which vehicle and how many.
There is one more thing that does not appear in either column. A group on transfers has to reassemble at a kerb every time it moves, and a group of eight reassembles slowly. On a day booking the vehicle waits, the bags stay in it, and nobody is counted twice in a hotel lobby. That is worth something on a schedule that has to hold.
When Separate Transfers Genuinely Win
This is the section most price guides leave out, so here it is plainly. There are ordinary Riyadh days where buying twelve hours is the wrong purchase and we will tell you so on the phone.
- The single meeting day. You land, you go to one office, you go to the hotel, you fly out the next morning. That is three movements in a sedan against a break even of six. Book the three transfers and keep the difference, which on a Fortuner is well over four hundred riyals.
- The Olaya to Olaya day. If your hotel, your meeting and your dinner all sit within the same district, you have two or three short movements and a lot of walking. A car parked outside for nine hours is not solving a problem you have.
- The S Class exception. As the comparison table shows, in Riyadh the S Class needs seven movements rather than six. On a three movement day in a top of the range car, transfers are meaningfully cheaper and we would rather point that out than take the larger booking.
- The overnight in another city. If the day ends in Dammam or Jeddah rather than back in Riyadh, it is not a twelve hour day at all, it is an intercity route. Those are quoted per route and the day rate arithmetic does not apply.
The reason we publish this is not modesty. It is that a rate card only means anything if the company behind it will tell you when not to spend, and the argument for the day rate on the days it genuinely wins is far stronger once you know we would have said otherwise.
The Published Riyadh Rate Card
These are the retail rates in full, exactly as they appear on the pricing page. Every figure includes the chauffeur and fuel. VAT applies.
| Vehicle | Seats | Airport transfer | Full day, 12 hours | Extra hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan (Ford Taurus or similar) | 3 | SAR 230 | SAR 1,380 | SAR 115 |
| Luxury Sedan (Lexus ES or similar) | 3 | SAR 290 | SAR 1,495 | SAR 140 |
| SUV (Toyota Fortuner or similar) | 6 | SAR 210 | SAR 1,150 | SAR 105 |
| SUV (GMC Yukon or similar) | 6 | SAR 290 | SAR 1,725 | SAR 175 |
| BMW 7 Series | 3 | SAR 690 | SAR 4,025 | SAR 345 |
| Mercedes S Class | 3 | SAR 690 | SAR 4,370 | SAR 405 |
| Hyundai H1 | 11 | SAR 575 | SAR 1,610 | SAR 140 |
| Hyundai Staria | 11 | SAR 575 | SAR 1,840 | SAR 175 |
| Toyota Hiace | 11 | SAR 690 | SAR 1,725 | SAR 165 |
| Toyota Coaster | 21 | SAR 690 | SAR 2,070 | SAR 185 |
| VIP Luxury Coach (34 seats) | 34 | SAR 1,725 | SAR 2,990 | SAR 290 |
| Luxury Coach (47 seats) | 47 | SAR 1,725 | SAR 2,875 | SAR 290 |
Hourly hire sits between the two for days that are neither. If you need a car for a four hour window rather than a full twelve, our hourly chauffeur service covers it, and the extra hour column above is what applies once a full day runs beyond its twelve hours.
Choosing the Vehicle Before You Choose the Basis
The break even changes with the vehicle, so the vehicle question comes first. In practice most Riyadh days resolve into four cases.
- One or two travellers with light bags. The Ford Taurus sedan at SAR 230 a transfer or SAR 1,380 for the day, or the Lexus ES if the meeting warrants it. Both cross at six.
- Three or four travellers, or two with real luggage. The Toyota Fortuner is the value on this card and it is the cheapest full day on it at SAR 1,150. Six seats, room for cases, and the lowest day rate we publish anywhere.
- Board level and client facing. The Mercedes S Class and BMW 7 Series exist for the days when the car is part of the meeting. Note that in Riyadh these cross later rather than sooner, so on a short day they belong on transfers.
- A team of five or more. The Hyundai H1 or Staria at eleven seats, the Toyota Hiace, or a Coaster at twenty one. All of these cross the break even by the third movement, so book the day and stop counting.
The full specification for each vehicle, including seats and luggage capacity, is on the fleet page, and the Riyadh service detail sits on the Riyadh chauffeur service page.
What We Need From You to Quote in Minutes
Four things settle a Riyadh quote, and if you send all four the answer usually comes back within minutes rather than after a conversation.
- How many times you expect to move. This is the question that decides everything above, and it is the one most enquiries leave out.
- How many passengers and how much luggage. Three passengers with four large cases is not a sedan, whatever the seat count says.
- The flight number if an airport leg is involved. Never the landing time.
- Whether the day leaves Riyadh. Anything that ends in another city, or in Mecca or Madina, is quoted per route rather than from the published table.
Send those to +966 56 644 0190 or through the contact page and we will come back with the cheaper of the two options rather than the larger one. We operate across Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Mecca and Madina, and the arithmetic on this page applies to the three cities where rates are published.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many transfers before a full day chauffeur is cheaper in Riyadh?
Six in a sedan or an SUV, seven in a Mercedes S Class, and three in an eleven seat Hyundai H1 or Toyota Hiace. The number comes from dividing the published twelve hour rate by the published transfer rate for the same vehicle, so it changes with the vehicle rather than with the day.
Why is the Riyadh day rate cheaper than the Jeddah one?
Full day hire in Riyadh starts from SAR 1,150 while in Jeddah and Dammam it starts from SAR 1,380, and both figures are published on the pricing page. Because the day costs less in the capital while transfer prices are broadly similar, it takes fewer movements to reach the break even. On a Lexus ES the difference is six movements in Riyadh against nine in Jeddah.
What does a full day of chauffeur hire in Riyadh actually include?
Twelve hours with a professional chauffeur, with fuel included, and the vehicle held for you between stops rather than dispatched away and recalled. Hours beyond the twelve are billed at the extra hour rate shown for each vehicle, which runs from SAR 105 on a Fortuner to SAR 405 on an S Class. VAT applies to all published rates.
Is an airport transfer counted as one movement?
Yes for the arithmetic, but it consumes far more of a day than an inner city hop. King Khalid International is roughly thirty five kilometres north of the financial district and the run takes forty to fifty minutes in ordinary conditions. Count it as one movement when you are comparing prices and as two hours when you are planning the schedule.
Can I book a chauffeur in Riyadh for only part of a day?
Yes. Hourly hire covers windows shorter than twelve hours and is the right purchase for a half day of meetings that does not justify the full block. If the window keeps extending, the extra hour rate applies rather than a second booking.
How much is a transfer from Riyadh to Dammam or to Mecca?
Intercity routes and the Mecca and Madina corridors are quoted per route rather than published, because the price depends on distance, vehicle and timing. Send the route and the travel date to +966 56 644 0190 and the quote usually comes back within minutes. We do not publish a figure we cannot stand behind for every case.
The One Question That Settles It
Before comparing vehicles, before looking at rates, ask how many times the day requires the car to move. Three or fewer in a sedan and the honest answer is separate transfers. Six or more and the day rate is cheaper before convenience is counted at all. Anything with five or more passengers in it has almost certainly crossed the line already.
That single question decides the quote, and it is the first thing we ask. Published rates for Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam sit on the pricing page. Mecca, Madina and intercity routes are quoted per route on +966 56 644 0190.
