What corporate transport actually has to solve

Most corporate transport pages describe a car. The problem a company is actually buying its way out of is different, and it is usually one of four things: an executive whose time is worth more than the fare, a delegation whose movements have to happen in parallel, a compliance requirement that an informal arrangement cannot meet, or a finance team that wants one invoice instead of forty receipts.

The three shapes a corporate requirement takes

Point to point, when the movement is the product

An arrival, a departure, a single meeting across town. This is what airport transfers are for and the published transfer rate is the honest price. In Riyadh a Toyota Fortuner airport transfer is SAR 210 and a Ford Taurus is SAR 230.

The twelve hour day, when the diary is the product

The moment a visitor has more than three or four movements in a day, the transfer stops being the right unit. Full day hire covers twelve hours with the chauffeur and fuel included, from SAR 1,150 in Riyadh and SAR 1,380 in Jeddah and Dammam. Additional hours are billed at the published extra hour rate for the vehicle, which starts at SAR 105.

The period, when continuity is the product

For a country manager in the Kingdom permanently, or a project team on site for a season, the sensible unit is a month rather than a day. One named driver and one assigned vehicle, quoted per period rather than carded. The arithmetic is set out in our guide to monthly chauffeur hire.

Published rates a finance team can plan against

Corporate buyers are usually comparing against an internal travel budget rather than against another quote, so the useful thing is a number they can put in a spreadsheet today.

Jeddah and Dammam run on their own published card, and intercity routes such as Riyadh to Qassim or Jeddah to Makkah are quoted per route rather than carded. Cross border movements over the King Fahd Causeway to Bahrain are a separate product with documentation requirements for the vehicle and the driver, and they must be raised at enquiry rather than on the day.

Delegations, conferences and the Riyadh venue problem

This is the part most ground transport plans get wrong, and it is structural rather than a matter of service quality. The venues that host the largest Riyadh events, notably the convention centre at Malham and Riyadh Front, sit well outside the central hotel belt. A delegation attending a multi day exhibition is therefore not making a handful of transfers. It is making a shuttle movement every morning and every evening plus everything in between.

That is a multi vehicle, multi day requirement, and it is planned rather than dispatched. Compliance, and why it is a corporate question rather than a detail

Commercial passenger transport in Saudi Arabia is regulated by the Transport General Authority, and drivers working in the regulated passenger categories, limousine services included, are required to hold a professional driver card. For a company, using a licensed operator moves licensing, insurance, vehicle maintenance, replacement cover and employment liability off your balance sheet and onto the operator. An informal arrangement with a private driver does the opposite, and most organisations only discover which side of that line they are on after something has gone wrong.

Confidentiality is a structural property, not a promise

Confidential conversations happen in cars, and every transport supplier says it guarantees discretion. The part that is actually verifiable is the structure. A rotating dispatch pool means many drivers hear fragments of your business over a quarter. An assigned driver on a period arrangement means one does. For legal, financial and government facing work that difference is usually the reason the arrangement is chosen.

What a corporate account changes

An account consolidates billing into a single monthly invoice rather than per journey receipts, allows multiple named bookers inside one organisation, and gives priority on booking when capacity is tight. Capacity matters more than it sounds in Riyadh between October and January, when several large exhibitions run in the same weeks and the city absorbs most of the available premium fleet.

Choosing the vehicle

For a single executive doing city work the sedan and luxury sedan classes are the sensible default. Where the vehicle is part of the impression being made, the first class vehicles apply. For anybody with luggage or a mixed itinerary the SUV classes earn their place. For teams the vans are almost always right, because seats you do not use every day are inexpensive insurance and a team that occasionally becomes eight people is badly served by a six seat vehicle.
