Airport Transfers in Saudi Arabia: What They Cost and What They Save

An airport transfer is the one journey on a business trip where the cost of getting it wrong is not measured in money. A missed connection, a delegation standing at the wrong terminal door, an executive arriving at a meeting still holding a suitcase. This page sets out what we charge for transfers at Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, how the service actually works on the day, and when a transfer is the right purchase against a full day of hire.

Every figure below is the published retail rate from our pricing page. Nothing here is estimated. Routes to Mecca, Madina and between cities are quoted per route rather than published, and where that is the case we say so rather than inventing a number.

The Three Airports We Serve

King Khalid International, Riyadh (RUH). Roughly thirty five kilometres north of the King Abdullah Financial District. In ordinary conditions the run into the northern business districts takes forty to fifty minutes. Terminals 1 and 2 handle most international traffic, Terminal 5 handles the domestic shuttle, and they are far enough apart that a driver sent to the wrong one is effectively a missed pickup. We take the flight number so the terminal is never a guess.

King Abdulaziz International, Jeddah (JED). The gateway for Umrah and for the Red Sea business corridor. The city centre is around thirty five minutes away and Mecca is roughly ninety minutes by road, which makes the Jeddah arrival the busiest decision point in our whole operation. Pilgrim arrivals cluster heavily and the Hajj Terminal runs on its own rhythm.

King Fahd International, Dammam (DMM). The largest airport in the world by land area and, usefully, the quietest of the three to move through. Dammam city is about forty minutes out and Khobar around fifty, with the Bahrain causeway a common onward leg.

Two things in that table are worth noticing. The Fortuner is cheaper than the sedan in every city, so a party of four with luggage should not assume the larger vehicle costs more. And the top of the range cars are materially cheaper in Riyadh than in Jeddah, SAR 690 against SAR 920, which changes the arithmetic on a capital day. When a Transfer Beats a Full Day, and When It Does Not

A transfer is priced per journey. Full day hire is twelve hours with the same chauffeur and vehicle held for you. Divide the day rate by the transfer rate and you get the number of separate movements at which the day becomes the cheaper purchase on price alone.

In Riyadh a sedan crosses at six movements, an SUV at six, a Mercedes S Class at seven, and an eleven seat van at only three. In Jeddah and Dammam a sedan crosses at eight. So an arrival, one meeting and a departure is a transfer day and we will tell you so. A visiting team that lands, checks in, does two meetings and flies out has already crossed into day rate territory without anyone working it out.

The rule of thumb that survives contact with a real schedule: three movements or fewer in a car, buy transfers. Any group in a van or a coach, buy the day.

How the Transfer Actually Works

We take the flight number, never the landing time. This is the single most important line on this page. A flight number lets us track the aircraft, so a two hour delay moves the pickup automatically and nobody is charged waiting time for an aeroplane that was late. A landing time is a guess that stops being true the moment the schedule slips.

Meet and greet at arrivals. The chauffeur waits inside with a name board rather than texting from a car park. On an unfamiliar arrival at midnight that is the difference between a service and a taxi.

Terminal confirmed in advance. Riyadh and Jeddah both run multiple terminals far enough apart to matter. We confirm which one from the flight, not from the passenger.

Luggage counted before the vehicle is assigned. Four passengers with four large cases do not fit a sedan, and discovering that at the kerb is a poor start. Tell us the case count and we size the car to it.

Departures are booked backwards from the check in desk. We work back from the counter closing time through the drive, not forwards from when you would like to leave the hotel.

Choosing the Vehicle

One or two passengers with cabin bags: a sedan. Three or four with full cases: the Toyota Fortuner, which is both larger and cheaper. Senior executives or a client being collected: the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S Class. Five to eleven passengers: the Hyundai H1, Staria or Toyota Hiace, all of which move a team in one vehicle rather than a convoy. Delegations and conference groups: the Coaster at twenty one seats or the coaches at thirty four and forty seven, which is the group transport answer.
