Riyadh Racing Season 2026 to 2027: Getting to King Abdulaziz Racecourse and the Saudi Cup

For six months of the year, Riyadh has a standing weekend fixture that most visitors never think about until they are invited to it. The Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia announced the programme for the 2026 to 2027 season in August: fifty race days between October and April, twenty one feature race days, seven standout weekends and total prize money reported at SAR 236.3 million. At the top of it sits the Saudi Cup, one of the richest race meetings in the world.

That makes the racecourse a recurring destination rather than a one off event. A corporate host might take clients to the Crown Prince Cup in November, a family might go to the Kings' Weekend in December, and an international visitor might fly in for Saudi Cup night in February. The ground transport question is the same each time, and so are the mistakes. This guide sets out the confirmed dates, how a race evening actually behaves, and how to plan the car so that it works for the whole evening rather than just the drive there.

The Confirmed Season Dates

These dates come from the season programme published by the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia in August 2026. They are the dates of the racing. Individual race times, ticketing and hospitality packages are published separately and closer to each meeting.

Between those feature weekends there is ordinary racing on most Fridays and Saturdays through the season. The Juvenile Championship is also one of the seven standout weekends, and its date is in the Jockey Club programme.

One point deserves to be said plainly. A confirmed race meeting is not a confirmed booking. The dates above are real and the demand around them is real, but the only thing that turns a race day into a car at a hotel door is a conversation with the person who is actually going.

Why the Racecourse Is a Full Day Problem

King Abdulaziz Racecourse is on the north eastern side of Riyadh, well away from the Olaya and King Fahd Road hotel belt where most visitors stay. That distance alone changes the arithmetic. A return taxi or ride hailing trip is not one short hop, and the journey back is the hard part.

A race day is also longer than the racing. Guests who are hosted in hospitality arrive before the first race and stay for the feature race, the presentations and the conversation afterwards. For most of that time the car is not moving. It is waiting. Then, when the last race is run, thousands of people try to leave the same car parks on the same roads at the same time.

That exit is where plans fail. An app at the end of a big race night means a queue, a surge price and a pickup point that is somewhere other than where you are standing. A pre booked transfer has the opposite problem, because it has to name a return time that nobody can predict with confidence.

The practical answer is to stop pricing the journey and price the evening. Full day hire gives you one vehicle and one chauffeur for twelve hours. The chauffeur drops you, waits at an agreed point, knows the exit plan and brings you back whenever the evening actually ends. When the race day also includes a morning meeting or a dinner, the twelve hours are genuinely used. For an evening only, hourly hire covers the racecourse without paying for the rest of the day.

The Published Riyadh Rates

These are the full retail figures for Riyadh, taken from our published rate tables. Each full day covers twelve hours with a professional chauffeur and fuel included, and additional hours are billed at the extra hour rate shown. The rates are not event specific: a race day costs what any other day costs. VAT applies.

Two readings of that table are worth making, and both are our own reading of our own rate card rather than published claims. First, the six seat Fortuner is the cheapest Riyadh day on the list while carrying twice the passengers of the sedan above it, which suits a family or a small group of colleagues. Second, the eleven seat Hyundai H1 costs less for a Riyadh day than the six seat GMC Yukon, so a group of seven to eleven is usually better served by one van than by two SUVs.

Saudi Cup Weekend, the One That Needs Planning Early

Most of the season can be booked a week or two ahead. Saudi Cup weekend cannot. It is the peak of the Riyadh racing calendar and draws an international crowd of owners, trainers, sponsors and guests who arrive on a small number of flights and stay in the same small number of hotels.

In 2027 it also lands in an unusually full stretch of the city's calendar. The AFC Asian Cup runs across Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar from 7 January to 5 February 2027, so the Saudi Cup weekend falls on the same weekend as the tournament final. Squads, officials, sponsors and broadcast crews are still in town, and premium vehicles are finite. Ramadan is also expected to begin a few days later, around 8 February on astronomical estimates, which is an estimate rather than an announcement.

The practical consequence is simple. If you are hosting guests at the Saudi Cup, book the vehicles when you book the hospitality, not when you book the flights. Who Books a Chauffeur for the Races

The owners and stables run their own logistics. The people who book a chauffeur are elsewhere, and each needs something slightly different.

Corporate hosts and their guests. A company inviting clients to a hospitality box is buying an evening, and the car is part of the impression. That means an executive vehicle, a named chauffeur and a car that is already waiting when the guest walks out. This is the heart of our event transportation and corporate chauffeur service work.

International visitors for the feature weekends. Often arriving at King Khalid International for two or three nights around one meeting. The airport legs are best booked through our airport transfer service and the race day on full day hire, so that one chauffeur handles the evening and the hotel knows who is collecting.

Families and friends going together. A group of seven or more is almost always better in one van than in two cars. It is cheaper on our published rates, everyone arrives together and nobody is searching for a second vehicle at the exit. Larger parties belong on group transport.

Regulars through the season. Some guests go to several meetings over the winter. For them a standing arrangement with the same chauffeur is simpler than booking each weekend from scratch.

Three Mistakes Worth Avoiding

Booking a return at a fixed time. Nobody knows exactly when a race evening ends, least of all a hosted guest. A return booked for a fixed hour either leaves you waiting or keeps a driver waiting on a clock. Book the evening, not the return.

Choosing the pickup point after the last race. Agree the exit point and a fallback with the chauffeur before you go in. A meeting point decided by phone in a crowd is the most common failure of any big race night.

Treating Saudi Cup weekend like an ordinary Saturday. It is not. Book early, and if the trip also includes business meetings in the city, plan them around the racing rather than the other way round.

Combining the Races With the Rest of the Trip

The racing season overlaps with the busiest months of the Riyadh events calendar, from the conference weeks in October and November to the winter season and the Asian Cup in January.
